Just reading an article where some bright young thing has designed a small shelter that they are proposing to be used to house billions.

It looks great but at a cost of $10,000 is largely impractical as a housing solution. In a program we ran in Pakistan in 2010, we helped build 39,000 shelters at a cost of around $300 each.
Perhaps not as fancy but it did the job. What might be useful is if some of these pie in the sky designers actually went out into the field and saw first hand what was needed and what could be done.
